Recap of H2O World India 2023: Advancements in AI and Insights from Industry Leaders

On April 19th, the H2O World   made its debut in India, marking yet another milestone in its global journey. The conference gathered an array of notable experts and enthusiasts from deep learning, artificial intelligence, and data science. A broad spectrum of topics was covered, shedding light on the strides made in AI technology and its implications on various sectors. The theme of the event, “Make AI in India, Make AI for the World,” reflected the growing role of India in the AI and machine learning space.

The event started with an enlightening keynote  by Sri Ambati, Founder & CEO of H2O.ai. Sri unveiled new H2O offerings, including h2ogpt  and H2O LLM Studio , during his address. h2oGPT is a truly open-source generative AI, giving organizations the power to create their own large language models while maintaining their data integrity. H2O LLM Studio is a framework and no-code GUI designed for fine-tuning state-of-the-art large language models (LLMs). Sri also shared his vision for the future of AI in India.

This was followed by a series of fireside chats with industry stalwarts like Andy Markus , AT&T’s Chief Data Officer, and Dr. Andrew McMullan , Chief Data & Analytics Officer of CommBank. discussing how AI can empower large enterprises.

Prince Paulraj and Mark Austin  from AT&T delved into how the company has unlocked the potential of internal data science teams using AI.

CommBank’s Chief Decision Scientist, Dan Jermyn  and Nidhi Sinha , General Manager of Analytics at CommBank, revealed the significant role AI plays in enabling deeper connections with customers and showcased how Document AI was leveraged by CommBank to find valuable insights within unstructured data.

 

Building a Customer Obsessed, AI-Driven Organization

The conference highlighted the success story of IFFCO Tokio. Seema Gaur , Sr Executive Director of IT at IFFCO Tokio General Insurance Co. Ltd., discussed how its partnership with H2O keeps the company at the forefront of new technologies.

The conference also served as a platform to celebrate the achievements of the AI for Good H2O Olympics Hackathon  winners, where participants had the opportunity to apply their data science skills to a real-world use case related to pollution in India. The AI for Good Hackathon allowed participants to showcase their skills and contribute to a worthy cause.

There were in-depth talks and presentations on the art of fine-tuning large language models  and democratizing AI through Hydrogen Torch  and H2O Feature Store  by the H2O.ai team.

Guruprasad Mandrawadkar , Head of Data Science at HDFC Limited, detailed how their company uses AI to stay competitive in the mortgage industry.

Shainy Desouza from Citibank gave a glimpse of innovations at Citibank, and Ayush Agrawal , Executive Manager of Data Science at CommBank, provided an in-depth explanation of the bank’s journey toward implementing Document AI.

Shuvam Sengupta and Naveen Rathani from Wells Fargo shared the stoCommBank leveraged Document AI data-decision-driven bank.

Dr. Agus Sudjianto , EVP, Head of Corporate Model Risk at Wells Fargo, talked about designing machine learning models that are interpretable, reliable, robust, resilient, and fair.

Attendees also had the chance to participate in hands-on labs allowing them to gain practical experience and put their skills to the test.

The event concluded with a Kaggle Grandmaster panel , which featured H2O.ai’s own Pascal Pfeiffer, Chun Ming Lee, Shivam Bansal, Parul Pandey, and Sanyam Bhutani. The panel answered data science questions and shared their knowledge on keeping up with industry trends.

In addition to the talks and hands-on labs, attendees enjoyed networking opportunities throughout the day, allowing them to connect with like-minded individuals and industry leaders. The event received an NPS score of 87.5, indicating that attendees had a positive experience.

Overall, H2O World India Event 2023 was a great success, bringing together a diverse group of experts in AI. The event showcased how AI can be used for business and social good, providing valuable insights into the latest industry trends. As we look forward to the next H2O World event, we continue to ride the wave of AI transformation, ever committed to fostering the development and application of AI for the greater good.
